Get to know us - Roberto Liu

In this section we will introduce you to different members of the team so that you can get to know the people behind each of our areas and products.

Roberto Liu
He is the Sales Director at DESS Dental Smart Solutions. He is part of the sales department and one of his main challenges is to manage the client portfolio to achieve benefits.

Define DESS® in three words

For me the three words that describe DESS® are Quality, Ambition and Excellence.

What do you do on your day-by-day?

I have several tasks to do during the day: from following up on new accounts, to keeping in touch with distributors or looking for big companies to collaborate with. In addition, I also have to keep an eye on the operations and day-to-day running of the company.

Could you explain the business model on which DESS® is based?

In DESS® we have two sales channels. On the one hand, direct sales to distributors, who are in charge of commercializing our products at a local event. When working with distributors, we always look for companies that are aligned with our vision and way of working.

On the other hand, we have a B2B sales model: we sell directly to professionals through our online stores. We currently have presence in Spain, Portugal, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Sweden and Norway.

Regarding this second business model, we are working together with distributors to create a mixed model.

What would you say the projections are at one year?

We have very optimistic expectations. In these last years, DESS® has grown at a frenetic pace, reaching up to 30% growth. Looking at the market trend, we believe that for next year the growth could be similar and, in the best case, higher. We are very optimistic.

Do you think that the dental implant sector has experienced a significant change in recent years?

In dentistry in general we are living in a time of change in which we are moving from a traditional model to a digital one. This change, like all changes, needs time to be implemented and adapted to the market. Fortunately, we at DESS® are already on board this digital world and we are ready to face all the challenges that this implies.

On the other hand, if we talk strictly about dental implantology, there are more and more competitors that are dedicated to the manufacture of compatible abutments with the huge brands on the market.

In this case DESS® stands out thanks to the quality of our products and the constant innovation to which they are subjected. Moreover, thanks to our "Pure Switch" concept, all our abutments are perfectly interchangeable with the originals, which gives us an added value.

If you could put yourself in the shoes of a colleague from another department for a day, which would it be?

I'd like to be the Graphic Designer. I think it's a very creative and hard job at the same time. It would be fun to have the ability to create all the graphic content for the brand. Also, I have some knowledge of Photoshop.

What would you advise a person who has just joined the company?

I would tell him to be eager to work and to make a team, because here he will always have everybody's support. I would also add that he should have a little patience, but above all, that should come with a desire to learn and grow.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

I'd like to be able to stop time, mostly so I can devote it to what I really like to do.

Travel to the past or the future?

I wouldn't really go to the past, because the past is history. I wouldn't go to the future either, because I have to create the future during my journey and, if I knew what was happening, I wouldn't live in the same way and, moreover, I would lose the uncertainty that characterises it. I prefer to stay in the present.

Song you're most ashamed to admit you like

I'm pretty embarrassed, but I must admit I like some of the verses in Justin Bieber's songs.

If you were mistaken for a famous artist, who would it be?

I hope it wouldn’t be Jackie Chan. I'd like to be mistaken for Will Smith, although I admit it's quite difficult (if not impossible).
