Dr. Konstantinos Tokmakidis: New DESS Dental Key Opinion Leader

From the classroom to the clinic: the professional development of Dr. Tokmakidis

We are delighted to present Dr. Konstantinos Tokmakidis as a new DESS KOL. He is the founder and instructor of DENTALEDU, an online learning platform that connects excellent dental professionals for education and training purposes.

He also runs a private practice with his own laboratory in Adligenswil (Switzerland). His main focus is on incorporating digital solutions into daily practice, in particular the use of CAD/CAM workflows and the CEREC system.

Dr. Tokmakidis, born in Thessaloniki (Greece) but with Swiss nationality, has extensive training and experience in the dental sector. Below is a brief overview of his main academic and professional achievements.

Academic training and specialization in dentistry

He first entered the dental sector in 1996 after completing a degree in dentistry at the University of Greiswald, Germany. Ever since then, Dr. Tokmakidis has continued to develop his academic knowledge, taking different courses, degrees and postgraduate courses, among which the following particularly stand out:

  • Doctorate at the Department of Prosthetics and Biomaterials, RWTH Aachen University, Germany.
  • Postgraduate studies in Prosthodontics (2004 – 2008) and Implantology (2007 – 2009) at the RWTH Aachen University.
  • Master in Periodontology and Implant Therapy (2012 – 2014).

 

Clinical and teaching experience in dentistry

Dr. Tokmakidis is a dental professional who has been active in the field for over 20 years. His training is closely linked to his experience. Beginning his career in 2003 as a dental assistant in a private clinic in Greece, he has continued to practice ever since:

  • Assistant and lecturer at the Department of Dental Prosthetics of the RWTH Aachen University (2004 – 2008).
  • Clinical Director at Swiss Smile, Winterthur, Zurich (2013).
  • Founder and director of his own private practice in Adligenswil (Switzerland) specializing in implantology, prosthetics and aesthetic dentistry with his own laboratory (since 2014).
  • Founder and trainer of DENTALEDU, a platform for continuous training in dentistry (since 2023).

Connection with DESS Dental: a natural collaboration

Dr. Tokmakidis has recent experience with DESS® products, although he has been familiar with the brand for years, thanks to a collaboration he established with industry professionals in the United States.

He is currently working with various DESS® components, with particular interest in those he has begun to incorporate into his digital workflows, especially in relation to those developed in collaboration with the Swiss laboratory Seiler Scheidegger, which, like Dr. Tokmakidis, is a DESS KOL.

    A DESS interface that is 100% compatible with the Sirona CEREC system, adding value with technologies such as SelectGrip®. Gold anodized, with multiple gingival heights and rotational and anti-rotational versions.
    Compatible with CEREC's own libraries and scanpost. It is also compatible with DESS libraries, using our intraoral scan abutment.
  • Scan abutments
    The intraoral scan abutments do not have a screw hole, which dramatically improves Z-axis localization and avoids any distortions in the digital scan. Their compact design and manual handling make them ideal for both clinical and laboratory use.

 

Committed to training and development in the dental sector

With his extensive background, especially as an instructor in advanced implantology, the addition of Dr. Tokmakidis' to DESS® is promising. With clinical cases, training sessions and webinars, he will provide knowledge and value for multiple dental systems.

One particular point to highlight is his knowledge of Nobel Biocare® implants. In fact, he has drafted several scientific papers for the brand, including the publication "Optimizing the aesthetic result with provisional prostheses on implants".

Outstanding scientific publications on Dr. Tokmakidis

In addition to publications for Nobel Biocare®, Dr. Tokmakidis has been providing resources to train dental professionals for years. Among the most prominent of these are:

  • "Soft tissue management in implantology" at the Swiss Dental Community.
  • "Load distribution and load concepts in teeth and implants".
  • "Zirconium oxide in implantology: fundamentals and current aspects" in the Greek journal of implantology.
