Sant Jordi 2025: Books, roses and the magic of the 23rd of April

In Catalonia, the 23rd of April is a special date that goes beyond the love for books: it is a day where roses, literature and solidarity go hand in hand. At DESS® we didn’t want to miss the opportunity to join in the Sant Jordi celebrations this year.

DESS® participates in World Book Day 2025

In 2025, we want to reaffirm our commitment to culture and social responsibility by collaborating with foundations that do exemplary work. For us, sharing culture also means sharing values, supporting just causes and building a more inclusive environment.

DESS® and the Fupar Foundation: Sant Jordi 2025

Once again, we collaborated with the Fupar Foundation, which promotes the integration of people with intellectual disabilities into society and employment. Our participation on this Sant Jordi involved buying roses.

With this gesture, we want to reinforce our commitment to a more inclusive society that is able to create real, dignified opportunities, and to a business model that is more humane and sustainable.

DESS® and the AIS Foundation: Sant Jordi 2025

However, at DESS® we wanted to do our bit for this Sant Jordi celebration by doing something sweet: selling chocolates for the AIS Foundation (Help for children in need). We also acquired their popular "I cook, you paint" book, which has sold over 45,000 copies.

This foundation works to improve the quality of life of children with disabilities, promoting their personal development and integration into society. So, the money from the chocolates sold on behalf of the AIS Foundation has gone directly to social causes promoted by the charity.

The impact of our charity fundraising on World Book Day (H2)

As in previous years, DESS® employees have chosen the charity to which the money raised during World Book Day will be donated. Each company employee had the opportunity to suggest a charity to which they felt committed, but in the end, the Barcelona Cancer Association was the winner.

DESS® and the Barcelona Cancer Association

DESS will donate the money raised to the Barcelona Cancer Association, a non-profit organisation that operates throughout Spain. It works to reduce the impact of cancer on society, supporting cancer research and developing educational programmes and activities to promote healthy lifestyles.

A book to remember, a Sant Jordi to share

Sergio Muñoz, a member of the DESS® team, came up with the idea for "Cristina's Flight" together with writer Marçal Gribau. The book is based on a true story about the tragedy that occurred in 2015, when a Germanwings pilot deliberately crashed a plane flying between Barcelona and Düsseldorf. Among the 149 victims was Sergio's sister Cristina, a promising young neuroscientist.

All the proceeds generated by the sale of the book go to scientific research at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. With this gesture, Sergio honours the memory of his sister and supports the development of science with this initiative. That is why we at DESS® support this initiative, promoting the book by our colleague Sergio Muñoz.

We conclude a Sant Jordi that unites culture and solidarity

At DESS® we know that small actions can have a big impact, because giving a book or a rose may be a gesture of love, but it can also support causes that matter. Thanks to the different collaborations made by both the company and the employees, we have been able to close this day showing solidarity and commitment.
